Morning all

Sitting in Calvi Airport again, checking weather and NOTAMS, attempting but failing to file a flight plan online and uploading more pictures. We’ve got some fresh orange juice and croissants to keep us going – and the orange juice was €4.50 so it’d better be good!

Owing to a minor whoops on PeanutWood the Gallery is missing. Don’t know why, but it just is. Can’t really fix it down here so for the time being we are just uploading the rough draft pictures to my MobileMe account.

We’re blogging either on the iPhone or on the Macbook if we have a wifi signal. This is why there will sometimes be a delay in getting the pictures online. If you haven’t seen any pictures, scroll back through the posts and see if there are any links at the end of the posts!

Launching soon to mainland Italy. Thunderstorms forecast up at Pisa, but looks pretty good where we’re going – and its glorious here in Calvi. Spookily, we are sitting in the terminal with 200+ Brits waiting to board a Thomson flight to Gatwick. It really IS a small world after all.

Oops!

Thanks to the reader who pointed out the whoops on the log last night. The weblog has been woefully quiet for a while as posted below, but I’ve upgraded it which lost two very important lines of code which encoded the emails correclty.

Now everyone should be able to email the posts we email in, not just those fluent in Base64 – or as it is more commonly known, pure gobbledegook! The original gobbledegook post now makes sense…happy readings!

Back again

Seems the Gallery has been down on the website for a few days. This was a problem with WordPress I think – it seems there was a security glitch on the version of WordPress the site was running. Having upgraded this afternoon all is well again.

The Florida gallery has been completely revised since we got back from the USA, the pictures are now in a more logical order and there are lots of new pictures. Take a look!

Its all gone Mickey Mouse…

…on PeanutWood that is. Over the Christmas period I’ve completed the reworking of the site and Wordpress and Gallery2 are now fully integrated and working as I’d like them. In the past I’ve written all the code for PeanutWood myself and then bolted extras on from the net as required, and its never worked quite as I’d wanted it. Moving the site to JAB gave me new motivation to make the site perfect. Facebook? Pah! PeanutWood is back!

Over Christmas the site had a wintry theme, but now Christmas is over for another year its time to move on. That’s why we’ve gone all Mickey Mouse, in honour of our impending trip to the USA. The site will get regular retheming as we both see fit.

I’m left with but one annoying bug on this current theme. In the past I’ve never really made sure the site is compatible with a variety of browsers, but with Wordpress I don’t have to worry. It should always be compatible. I’ve checked the site on IE7, Firefox and Opera and it looks fine. However if you are running IE6 or earlier the logo looks awful. I apologise for this – its a bug where older IE browsers can’t cope with .PNG images. I’m working on a fix over the weekend – I will not be beaten.

Everything else works fine. While in the USA we will be regularly blogging by email to keep you all up-to-date on what we are doing. If we can find a wifi hotspot we’ll update the Galleries too. Check the site regularly, or subscribe to the RSS feeds, to read our regular ePostcards from America!

The wonders of WordPress

Those of you watching PeanutWood for the last week or so may be forgiven for thinking that not that much has been happening. Well, your right. And wrong. Both at the same time. Funny old world isn’t it?

PeanutWood has moved from servers at Docklands to a new server in Cardiff, with much more modern and easy-to-use software to manage the site and all the email functions – you won’t notice any of that, but it sure does make my life easier. With the move wiping the old PeanutWood and all the data on it, now seemed like as good a time as any for a little “refresh”. And what you are reading now is the result of that refreshing change.

Previously I’ve written all the code myself, and then bolted WordPress on to manage the Blog. This time I’ve done things a little differently, and have used WordPress to write the entire site. As a faithful reader you won’t notice that much difference – to begin with anyway. The beauty of writing everything in WordPress means that its all in one format, and therefore easy to change the look of the whole website with just one click.

So, keep reading the weblog and the photo galleries (which aren’t here yet but will be along in a day or three). Please comment on the articles and photo’s you see, we’d like to hear your comments. And watch for the PeanutWood “skin” to change from time-to-time! And if you are ever thinking of starting a weblog or small website, I’d thoroughly recommend WordPress!
